Cthulhu sketches:
I've added some more finished Cthulhus to the Human Mollusk blog. Here's one I did several months ago and didn't like back then. Perhaps I thought it looked too much like a medieval demon instead of a Great Old One. Looking at it now I don't think it's all that bad, but I'm still not sure it if I should include it in the series.
If Cthulhus had gargoyles, the bottom one would be among them.
ReplyDeleteI love the white on blacks.
I think it'd be great to see truly epic scale drawings full of these bastards, like in a full-on environment, or maybe some kind of accordion style book, like that Elvis Road deal.
These are great, as usual, i love seeing the variety of Chthulhoid forms. I would love to see them get more abstract & less sensical as usual. One of the main things i think about these sorts of monsters is that they should be more psychological than physical... more mysterious, less concrete. The white on black drawings gave me the idea of "THE LOVECRAFTIAN KEITH HARING". WOW!!!
ReplyDeletevery nicely done. I too would like to see how far you could push what needs to be shown. I always loved Lovecraft for his description of the unseeable. The less the creepier. Less form more void you know? Anyhow, I really love your linework espec. on the negative versions.
ReplyDeleteThese are wild, they seem to be getting freakier each time.
ReplyDeletethink Luke makes a great point about your doing a full on environment of these critters. Preferably in the inverted white on black style and on a large scale.
Something I envy in your images is your use of blacks in your shading, I've tried to do it myself and failed miserably...
your ink work is great !
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - see my next post for my reply.
ReplyDeleteThe gargoylethulu works great with the rest of the series, I'd include it. Amazing as always.
ReplyDelete- aeron
I love the feel of discarded x-Rays the negative ones have, and you definitely have to include that last Cthulu, it is awesome, and, isn't AWESOME a great word with wich describe the "real" Cthulu? think about it...
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it!
