I like the weird things this makes me see, unintentionally. I'm seeing ghosts and detached limbs sneaking around weird places, awesome.
I saw a HUGE Matta retrospective at the contemporary museum of art in Chicago about 6 years ago. I'd been a fan for awhile but seeing his paintings in person really blew me away. He has a great balance of figurative and abastract style that lets your mind wander off in ten million directions in one picture.
Beautiful work as always. Do you know Arshile Gorky's stuff?
ReplyDeleteNot familiar with Gorky. I'll have to look him up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeffrey.
Oh yeah- send in an avatar when you can..
Just looked at some Gorky: Some of it is spectacular. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to have to make a trip tot the library for some Gorky books.
ReplyDeleteCool, thought you might like him... I see a similar sort of lyrical linework in your drawings, hard to do.
ReplyDeleteAnother great one is Roberto Matta, very overlooked.
BTW, my avatar is already on the site over there -----> (?)
Oh yeah. Smoking way too much weed lately...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments!
I'll check out Matta too. I'm pretty ignorant beyond my set of ten or so favorites that I've had forever.
