Ikonostasis

Well, that was the first of many, i hope. This one was a low-key, minimalist impression of EBD as it is now. (I'm sorry, those who expected walls profusely hung with our monstrous creations- i don't do the exuberent maximalist Salon thing).  & of course i did not include the photos with the screaming crowds and police shielding us from crazed groupies as i don't want to embarass anyone...

here's some coverage, also of the show that was going on below/behind ours
(an Ikonostasis appropriately being the screen that divides nave from Sanctuary in a church- only it does not divide, it connects) :

First we take Den Haag, then we take Berlin?

best,

I.

The 9th Island

A few months ago, I started working on a new comic project to avoid the void that was going to follow after my Hieronymus Bosch marathon. The script was done in just two weeks, which is an indication of how much fun i am having with it. These snapshots are the first teasers.

Boy meets girl. How will their budding relationship develop?

It sure is hard to run a business, but there are limits.

                                                           Should we trust this guy?

                                                  Don't you hate wordy comics.

Berlin - Cancer City

I don't think I've posted this one before: it's my contribution to the cool underground comics anthology APUCKALYPSE which came out about three years ago. Every artist had one page to tell what happens in their city during the apocalypse. I had the honor to represent Berlin.

Raymond Roussel

A sketch after a photo of the eccentric writer Raymond Roussel, taken in Jerusalem, which makes him to appear as if he rises from his grave. Which in turn reminds of his novel Locus Solus, arguably one of the first zombie stories ever written. Or at least, it has some kind of zombies in it, among many other eyebrow-rising weird scenes.

Floorshow

EBD Group show/let's get it on.
Old school building smack dab in the centre of Den Haag, the Netherlands,
hardly any walls (one, basically, which may or may not be available), mostly windows, but lots of floor space plus the stair/seat/display thing(imagine it cleared of the remnants of the exhibition pictured).
No date fixed as of yet but think early 2016.

There is no funding, just a space, courtesy of http://locatiez.net/

If interested, leave a comment below.

Less  than 80 percent of the sum total of current EBD contributors show up in the comments section, & i retract the offer.

taking the piss

It would not be unfair, i think, to describe most draughtswomen and-men contributing to this blog as respectful of, if not pertaining to or even firmly rooted in, popular visual culture, although perhaps the part below the waist (waste?) of the mainstream.
I would be curious to know how many of us take inspiration from the aesthetics & tactics of 'contemporary art,' & in what way, negative or positive, if at all.

Any thoughts?
