Bloodywood

From my sketchbook. Respectfully fucking around with Ghanese filmposter art from the 1990s. Rotterdam's Kunsthal has a big show of these, called Bloodywood. Around 2005, Le Dernier Cri published a book on the same topic called Hollyvoodoo, which is a title I think a little more to the point. But anyway...

Santekraam II

In April and May, i am participating in the Santekraam II exhibition, together with my pals Matthias Giesen, Berend Vonk, Ben Vranken and Vlerk, who initiated the project. For those who do not understand Dutch: 'Santekraam' refers to saints, but it also means something like 'the whole kit and kaboodle'. (And 'Vlerk' means batwing, as well as brat). We are  showing comics, paintings, prints and various drawings about saints. The venue in Maastricht was thought of as the first in the series, but things did not work out in the fall of last year. This time, they bloody well did! In all the exhibitions I had, my work was never that well-protected. If you happen to be around, check it at Museum 'n More, Grote Gracht 74 Maastricht, Holland.

Our next stop will be in the unholy city of sin Amsterdam. To be continued in June...

Atelier du 8 : exhibition

From 18 January - 23 February i will be in a group exhibition in Het Hijgend Hert in Breda, Holland. The other participants are old friends: Berend Vonk, Matthias Giesen, Ben Vranken en Vlerk, who initiated the Santenkraam concept -and who did this poster design. INFERNO exhibition @ Le Monte en l'Air,Paris

The exhibition with original pages from the book, prints, illuminations by Alkbazz and more stuff will be open until 2nd of July.

Scratchboard Exhibition @ Le Dernier Cri and LUBOK #11 exhibition @ Boymans

With Gwen Tomahawk, Matthias Lehmann, Emre Orhun and Matti Hagelberg, i am a neat show at LDC's HQ in Marseille, featuring only scratchboard works. You can check it out there until 11 July. The idea is to have the show travel to other places in Europe, but nothing's settled yet. (Tips are welcome)

In other news:

LUBOK #11, a great anthology compiled by the industrious folks of PrintRoom, is on display in the Boymans van Beuningen Museum (Rotterdam's finest museum). Contributing artists are Damien Deroubaix, Sebastian Gögel, Irene Hanenbergh, Thomas Moecker, Olivia Plender, Jasper Sebastian Stürup, Koen Taselaar, Marcel van Eeden, Ewoud van Rijn, James Whitman, Christoph Ruckhäberle and yours truly. The entire book consists of lino cuts.

Across Charles Burns

Last weekend I spent in Lille, in the North of France (almost Belgium, and that is how it looks and feels over there) for the exhibition "Across Charles Burns" in the "La Secu" gallery. The place is a non-profit organisation and quite sympatico. The whole deal was set up by this big lug on the right, Jean-Jacques Tachdjian a.k.a. El Rotringo:

The other two participants in this fuzzy pic (by Pierre Druilhe, who is in the show as well) are Caritte and Besseron, also underground oldtimers from France. J.J. did a completely off-the-wall graphic zine called Sortez La Chienne! in the 1980s. I did some stuff for that, so we go back a long way but we never had met before and so we got a little sentimental about that after a few drinks. Some 20 artists from mostly France are in the show, which was a sort of Charles Burns tribute. I guess he was a big influence on a certain generation. I did the El Borba on the right:

These are silkscreens prints done by La Secu, done in a printrun of 100 each. They are for sale for only 20 Euros per pop, or 300 for the whole bunch.
