"these creatures are called hairworms, they are supposed to brainwash the grasshopper to jump into the water and drown, because water is worms' natural habitat."

What a bizarre idea. I was watching a documentary recently about an insect that waited to be consumed by some sort of caterpillar only to move inside its body to its head and flash or grow to distort the bugs head and attract the attention of the birds who would eat the caterpillar but be used by the smaller insect to incubate its eggs. Or something to that effect. I love the darker side of nature!

Fucking creepy, bloody hell, I thought 'The Thing' was just a movie!

These "hairworms" actually control the insect's mind, which is just fucked up beyond reason. Certainly something similar could afflict humans? On the other hand, I'd rather not know!

someone must watch your blog for tv plot ideas... i just saw some horribly dumb show do an episode based on a parasite like this that made people kill themselves. Re-Genesis was the name of the show I think. This flick would have freaked me out more than the show!
