Fantasy From Hell

Here's an early build of an in progress portrait of a demon for a book called "Heads From Hell" being published in the UK sometime later this or next year. The left eye socket will have smoke pouring out towards the top of the composition. I'm also struggling to decide if I want the head to be isolated in darkness or to make the chest/shoulders area and have them act like a landscape with the long snout like nose having roots growing into the chest/shoulder. The lack of cohesion between the layers is still very obvious here without the insane number of layers I end up building on. That bubble stuff to the right is a place holder pic to help me decide on particle effects. This is one in a series of four.

Properly hellish. Amazing as usual.
Do you use ImageSynth ?

Thanks, I haven't used imagesynth. I need to mess around with it though. I'd like to get into using 3D programs like zbrush.

I'm stocked to see this one develop, especially a face-focussed piece.

Pretty cool! So is "Heads from Hell" an art book?...An all demonic monster head/face collection?

Sean, I've been wanting to do some large face pics for awhile, this is as good an excuse as any. I really want to do a gigantic poster print of the blue monster fat woman from the horror movie House, or at least something similar.

PickledPunk, the title might still be up in the air, but that's what I know it to be for now. And it is an artbook and will be made in a limited run from what I understand.

Zbrush is fairly intuitive, and it's great for structuring and exploring abstract volumes.

And in my humble opinion, a head floating in darkness seems more eerie, like a ghost or the severed head of animals people hang on walls, or some abomination in formaldehyde.

Where do you find the pictures you’re working with? The textures are very fine.

Any site online that collects high resolution imagery, I'm usually poking my nose in at some point. I like to use weird vegetables, tree roots, animal flesh, anything with an unusual surface.
