Witchfinder General

Here's something I'm working on right now, to be a full color illustration for The Land Of The Moth. And yes, the title is inspired by the Vincent Price film of the same name, also known as The Conqueror Worm.

The concept is the rider hunts witches while riding the half deformed body of a witch partly transformed into some strange bird creature. There's going to be some sagging breasts covered in lacerations around the upper torso to imply that bitch witch is whipped right and proper to move!

Woah mule! amazing, grim, apocalyptic stuff, left me wondering where the hell you got some of the collage elements from though perhaps it's best not to know...

Yes, perhaps best not to know. I've been a fan of Ogrish for many years and have amassed quite a horrifying collection of imagery to say the least. The finished version will be covered in so many different texture layers the original photo bits will be obliterated, as they almost are.

The boot originates from a photo of amputated legs where you see bits of the flesh hanging out of the end. I think I used the same one in a recent photo doodle on my blog.

A terrific character, Aeron! That suffering old man's head on the mount is genius. I like the vast backdrop, too.

Awesome! Love to see where it goes. Also Aeron, i love that you use traditional/conservative arrangement in your pieces, so many artists feel they need to make everything off kilter that having straight-forward/strong image placement is really comforting to me.

Thanks, I got lucky with how well that corpse head strangled with the rope worked in relation to the figure riding the beast.

And thanks for noticing the traditional compositional structure, Sean. This one particularly is intended as a sort of portrait piece, not unlike those old portraits of generals painted atop their war horses.

You're going to be shocked when you see how much better this looks in color. I've been doing a lot of work for a metal band in the past month and it's helped me to wrap my head fully around using color in my digital works. I've worked out a unique process that allows me to utilize very textural color fields that look push the imagery into an eerie photo realistic appearance.

You got it Aeron, i was REALLY into renaissance/medieval Catholic art when i was in highschool & spent alot of time looking at the diagrams & the math of all the pictures. I got criticized for it alot by art teachers & art academic types, but it just looks right to me. Anyhow, i think i'm going to make one of these digital collages, you've inspired me! Let's see how it turns out. s.

Ar I too would like to make some digital collages. I’ve tried. Well I’d like to mix drawings and photos. Ensure you do post the final work there.
