Oh man, it's so overwhelmingly awesome. Who can do anything like this today? Tell me! The fact that all of this amazing drawing was done without "art", as it's understood usually, in mind, is so awesome. The linework, the forms; all of it is imbued with this manic, muscular energy, but it's so inviting at the same time. Impossibly awesome.

Greatest cartoonist-savant of all time, yes.

What an imagination...

Amazing work, this is why Marvel and DC comics have kept using Kirby's ideas for 40 plus years now, and pretty much only his ideas. 20th century mythology incarnate, and wonderful drawings to boot. Great post.

When I read something illustrated by Kirby, I read through it like I normally would with a comic and then go back and spend about 1/2 the time I spent reading it just starting at the artwork. You have to.

This is amazing. Way ahead of his time. Which series are these from?

It's pretty much all from the 1970s on... some Eternals stuff, some Kamandi, Some 2001 and Machine Man stuff, some of his later Pacific Comics series, etc.

Definitely my favorite period of his career: from his Fourth World work to the end.

WOW... wow...

I've recently been buying all the Kirby books I can get my hands on. His ability to draw things on a grand scale just knocks me over (like that double spread with the giant dude with the circuit board thumb). I also love how Kirby's art could completely work without sound effects- when Kirby draws an explosion you FEEL it and don't need words distracting from the power of his images.

the king indeed.

this may be an inane repsonse but who of us can keep quiet in the face of such power and genius?

I want giant Roy Lichtenstein sized prints of all of these images!

He's so good. I hated him as a teenager and now i hate him because he developed a style in which he could draw almost anything (except women).
Truly the king.
