Fighting Fantasy

There's been some talk about RPGs on this blog, so I thought I'd post a few drawings I did recently for a Fighting Fantasy-like solo adventure. These are not illustrations of actual scenes but more like vignettes which are going to be scattered about the book to set the mood. In it you play a guy who tries to escape from a castle where he is imprisoned.

These are great. Are you a fan of the Mervyn Peake books at all?

Thanks, Noah. Yeah, the Gormenghast novels are brilliant and I like his illustrations a lot, too.

These are wonderful, I love the look on the guy's face. Is this commissioned or did you come up with the project yourself?
I did a choose your own path dungeon strip on my website and there's a also a complete map of the Warlock of Firetop Mountain in there somewhere too. I started mapping Citadel of Chaos but it is completely bonkers. I will have to try again.

Thanks, Luke... come on, man, your drawings are awesome.
Jon - yes they're commissioned illustrations. I've seen your choose-your-adventure comic and like it very much. Haven't discovered the Firetop Mountain map though.
Dunno if you've seen my Ray Murphy flash comic, it's kind of like that, too.

Bitchin drawings, what kind of pencils do you use? And I'm always impressed with your use of shading, you get some really gritty textural effects with it.

aeron, no special pencil at all, a generic mechanical pencil with a 0.7 mm semi-soft lead.
