Here's a mostly finished abomination, one small detail of a larger image. The background is still an early build and there will be a lot of mist effects layered around, partly obscuring sections of this monster. I still need to add a giant claw to one of its forward limbs, possibly ripping apart a car to help emphasize the large scale of this thing.
Some amusing details, the scorpion like backside is built up from, among other things, gourd textures. And the mouth is filled with the teeth of a T-Rex.

Damn! Great monster! You said it's one small detail of a larger image: So you're talkin about a large landscape full of creatures, victims and ruins?
Thanks, yeah, huge landscape filled with hundreds of monsters, and one very big one. Flipped over cars, ripped apart roads, end of the world kind of stuff.

yowza! Scary stuff. Say, have you done these collage monsters using old fashioned physical collage? I'd love to see those as well.
I like this notion that an artwork can be more than a subject (a motif, a figure). The Sistine Chapel is a good counterexample. We tend to loose this idea. Probably because of adverts or all the small scale images on the Internet. Many of us are not used anymore to spend time just looking at one excessive picture.
Great work Aeron !
Thanks everyone. Sean - I've made a few. The last one I made was around 2000. It involved a headless corpse reaching its arms up with a bloody stump around the neck. Think I got it out of a Fangoria magazine. Above it was a floating black orb with a grinning mouth full of teeth, set in front of a barren wasteland. I really don't know what it is about the collage medium that sets me loose in some grotesque nightmarish fantasy world, ha.
Sagäuin - The finished image will be filled with a lot of fun details to pour over. I haven't had the opportunity to explore the theme of the end of the world, but I suppose this will be my first.
And this might sound funny coming from someone who is entirely without religion, but I do intend to create a series of traditional religious artworks in the distant future. The Temptations of Saint Anthony, The Hell Mouth, Armageddon, and other fun topics that you know I could do justice to.
Head wrecking stuff! fantastic.
